COURSE OVERVIEW

The Advanced Workshop of Joint Puncture and Soft Tissue Injections will teach you helpful techniques in the diagnosis and therapy of various musculoskeletal conditions. The procedures are most often used to reduce inflammation, provide pain relief and alleviate stiffness in tendons, muscles and joints of the shoulder, knee, or hip. The program thus addresses a highly sought-after service of the ageing population and gives you the opportunity to practise your skills on cadavers.

The Advanced Workshop can be completed individually or as stage 1 of the Advanced Certificate of Clinical Procedures.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND COURSE REQUISITES

This workshop is for general practitioners only and assumes no prior knowledge or specific training in joint puncture or soft tissue injecting.

This workshop can be completed individually or as stage 1 of the Advanced Certificate of Clinical Procedures.

Dr Gerard Ahern

MBBS   

Dr Gerard Ahern is a clinical anatomist teaching at undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and specialist levels at multiple universities and specialist colleges. Gerard is Final Year & GP Coordinator, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Anatomist (University of Notre Dame), Honorary Senior Fellow in Anatomy (University of Melbourne), Member Board of Examiners (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists), Honorary Associate Professor (Oceania University), Tutor and Lecturer (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) and co-author of the best-selling book 'General Anatomy'. He has also co-authored many electronic programs on various areas of medicine.

COURSE DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

The practical workshop is held on Friday evenings (6.00pm - 9.45pm) to meet the needs of time-poor medical professionals. The workshop includes hands-on performance on cadavers under the guidance of an experienced medical practitioner who specialises in the field. Participants are required to complete a pre-workshop reading activity. There is no formal assessment, but specific individual feedback is provided by the workshop presenter.

CERTIFICATION AND ACCREDITATION

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive a certificate of attandance.

RACGP: 8 Category 2 QI&CPD points
ACRRM: 4 PRPD points

This workshop:

  • Is recognised by Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP). The RNZCGP recognises all courses endorsed by the RACGP. Peer review and audit are compulsory.
  • Is recognised by the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP)
    The HKCFP recognises all courses endorsed by the RACGP. Points are calculated differently.
